1 st day out of the Valor
…“Be careful with the rattlesnakes”… that’s the first thing I hear when I get to the FLL airport and I smile. I make my way through security, and look around. I have never been here before, but somehow sitting in a airport gives me some sense of normality, the heavy bag pack, the messed up hair, the strangers I never saw and will never see again and looking forward to see someone I haven’t seen for a while. Somehow its like I just left the twilight zone, I walked out a door and the whole world shifted. It will not be as exciting as walking out the door and being in a new country everyday, going to a show for free, to a piano bar where the pianist is one of your best friends, after a day of adventures with the group coordinator and a little shift that pays for the all the fun, followed by a pizza in the open deck or by sharing a fabulous German Rizling with a sexy roommate at “home“. It took me a long time to adapt and I shed a few tears, but this is what I will remember, listening to “tears at the gangway”, the crazy polish girl, the laid back Mexican, the "phillipino" band, the Canadian pianist voice, the laundry days, the parties, driving a boat, diving for the first time, zip lining, learning about the Mayan culture, sleeping with a guitar beside me all dozens of photos,
It was really easy to get there, after another night where I did not have much sleep. Andrew and I went to the cinema and got to see 2 films for the price of 1, after a fabulous Ceaser salad and an yummy Calzone, I walked in the streets at night for the 1st time in a long time… its amazing how little things can feel so magical when you are not used to have them in you life anymore.
